What Needs to Be Registered

• Professional sign-off. The City requires sign-off by an appropriately registered professional; the category depends on system size and type.
• Documentation. Application form, single-line diagram, site plan, equipment specifications, and proof of ownership or the owner's authorisation.
• Export control. Systems that are not approved to export must prevent power flowing back into the grid.

The Registration Process

1. Your installer confirms the inverter is on the approved list before buying it.
2. The application and supporting documents are submitted through the City's process.
3. The system is installed and commissioned.
4. The CoC, commissioning documents and sign-off are submitted.
5. The City reviews and may inspect the installation.
6. Where needed for export, the City arranges suitable metering.
7. You receive written approval, which should be kept with your property documents.

Selling Power Back: Cash for Power

Registered grid-tied systems with the correct metering can export surplus power. The City credits exported energy at its SSEG feed-in tariff plus an incentive, which can offset your municipal account, with cash payouts once credits pass a threshold. Tariffs, incentives and thresholds are reviewed each year. Check the current terms before counting on export income.

Registering an Existing System

Many older systems were installed without registration, or with an inverter that is not on the approved list. • Selling your home. Buyers, agents and conveyancers increasingly ask for the CoC and SSEG approval.

• Compliance. The City issues contravention notices for unregistered systems, requiring disconnection within five working days, a CoC and registration within a month. Failure to comply can lead to the property's supply being disconnected.
